Gemotions

The world felt slightly tilted. He checked his phone again, the small screen reflecting his own haggard features. The email, with its cold, impersonal wording, sat there, a digital dagger. Closing down for good. The words repeated themselves in his mind like a mantra.

He slammed his laptop shut, the metallic clang echoing in the otherwise quiet office. He pushed his chair back, the wheels squeaking in protest, and abruptly stood up. He felt the insistent urge to pace, needing to expend some energy.

He wandered aimlessly through the sterile, brightly lit hallways of the office building, the endless stream of identical cubicles offering no solace. He felt a burning sensation in his throat, and had to gulp to swallow it down.
